Our History

Junior Library Guild (JLG) began in 1929 as a children’s version of the Literary Guild. Over the years, our mix of customers shifted more and more towards libraries. To reflect that change, and to show our dedication to our member libraries, we changed our name in 1988 to Junior Library Guild.

During our nearly 80 years of operation we’ve adapted for the times, but one thing has remained constant: our unwavering commitment to editorial excellence.  You can count on JLG to provide you not just with the books that will earn great reviews next month,  or be honored with major awards next winter. You can count on Junior Library Guild to provide your library with the books destined to become beloved and enduring classics.

Today JLG proudly offers 28 different reading levels from preschool through high school, all with an emphasis on selecting only the best and most worthwhile titles to engage young minds and foster a love of books and reading.
