Message from the President: Thanks for a Great Year!

Dear Junior Library Guild Members,

I want to thank our member librarians for helping us have a successful year in an environment that is difficult for everyone.

Not only is Junior Library Guild serving more school and public libraries now than ever before—over 19,000—but we’re proud to say that more of you are renewing your memberships. Record numbers of renewals tell us that you’re pleased with our books and service—especially our exceptional sales, customer care, and customer service reps—and that means we must be meeting your needs. 

One of the things we know we’re doing right is providing you with topnotch book selections. Our editors have the experience and insight to pick the best, and it looks like we’re soon going to break our own record for award-winning books.

We introduced five new Reading Levels this year, including two new SLJ Series Nonfiction Levels. We began offering series nonfiction levels in 2010 because you told us you had a real need for them. But we couldn’t have imagined then how important they would become. Now thousands of school and public libraries are taking advantage of this great addition to JLG’s service. Thanks for telling us what you needed and for having the confidence that we’d respond quickly with quality books.

Now that Library Journal, School Library Journal, and the Horn Book publications have joined JLG as sister companies of Media Source, Inc., we have an even deeper understanding of these needs, and we’re always working to create new products to meet them. Being part of this unique family of companies dedicated to serving the library community has allowed us to get closer to you, the librarians who are our customers and partners in bringing the newest and best reading to children and young adults.

Looking forward, we’re very excited about the coming year—2012 looks like it’s going to be another great one. Of course, we’ll be offering several new Reading Levels filled with terrific new-release books. And look for some new products from JLG as well, all aimed at making your job easier and helping you make your library better.
