Green Socks Everywhere!

Written by Leslie Bermel

October 09, 2012

As a presenter of the great books selected by JLG, my job keeps me on the road travelling to school districts all over the US. It’s always fun to get to a school district and meet with librarians because we share the love of a good book. We talk about the latest JLG selections and share ideas about how to get these great books into the hands of the children they are written for. There is never a time that I don’t learn something new, and I hope the librarians leave a little smarter too.

At the end of each of the booktalks I give away several pairs of our soon-to-be famous “Librarians Rock!” socks. It never fails that one librarian or all the librarians take off their shoes and put on their new socks immediately. Sometimes it’s because their feet are cold or because they have a new pair of socks and want to model them. I think it’s because the socks are green and everyone feels smarter wearing green, right?

Winners photographed are from September 2012 in the Osseo Independent School District.

EDITOR’S NOTE: Schedule free JLG Booktalks for a convenient on-site visit to your school library or library district, or via Webinar. They make great in-service events for librarians. Contact sales@juniorlibraryguild.com.
