Book Verdict

Shelf Life

On the Radar

One of the best parts of my new job here at JLG is reading the new books. What’s even better is being able to share them with others. Every week I write On the Radar in SLJ’s free online newsletter, Extra Helping. I choose five or six of the new releases that I think you shouldn’t miss. I write little book talks and just like I would if I were trying to sell it to a patron, I often leave you hanging at the best part.

Recently I decided that you may not have received these new books yet. Maybe you don’t have that level (what are you waiting for?). Maybe it hasn’t been released to the world yet. (tap, tap, tap) Perhaps they are “in the mail.” So, this week I added a you-might-want for every book. These are read alikes. They could be books by the same author or the same writing style or the same genre. These are books you may already have. We call them The Backlist at JLG. (You can order these individually. Watch your mail for specials! It’s that time of year.) Use these titles while you wait (impatiently) for the new releases to arrive.

Whatever the case, I hope you find that these JLG highlights will get you excited about  the future and the brown boxes in the mail. Certainly, reading them will keep you current and who has time to read everything? I’m saving you from terrible, horrible, no good, very bad books. That’s a good thing, isn’t it?
