Working from the Other Side

Tomorrow I leave for Philadelphia for the SLJ Summit. It’s the first time I’ve been an invitor and not the invitee. I imagine that it will be odd to be on the other side of the table, so to speak. I think that 30 years in education- both in the classroom and in the library- can’t help but make me better at being a vendor. I’m going to hold a pre-summit focus group on how to make it in tight times. I’ll post our ideas on the blog.

My personal hope is that I won’t forget what it’s like to be that one person trying to spread a tiny budget across huge needs with less than optimal staffing. My goal in this new job is to find ways to help those that are still fighting for the rights of children to have access to new and wonderful materials. To give them access to the best information. To use the best in technology. To be your cheerleader on the side.

And by the way, if you live in the Columbus area, I am also available to to come your school. I can read to the children, help shelve books, do staff development… Send me an email. Let me know. I have wheels and will travel.
