Skirt compliments of my thrift-shopping sister.[/caption] You can teach an old dog new tricks! Woof! Woof! Yesterday Kayleigh and I played around with video on social media. It was Christmas sweater day, so I brought out my Mrs. Claus outfit. Nostalgic for winter booktalks with my kids, I did my first Facebook Live. How hard was it to shoot live? Pretty easy. We got the video in two takes. First, I chose three books about winter. We sat in my office and used my iPhone. Facebook Live gives you a countdown so you can be ready for filming. I did three quick booktalks, ending with a question and a directive to send them to our website. You can watch it here. A few people watched it live and made comments, which was kind of cool. We did it unannounced, so there was no ready audience. The video itself was just over 2 minutes. We then saved the video and put it on the JLG Facebook page. So. Here's my application to your work. You can go live, using your phone, tablet or even laptop with webcam. You can also make a video doing the same thing and post it on your website. Tips: 1. Smile 2. Keep it short 3. Practice your beginning and ending words 3. Make them laugh 4. Create an action step: Go to the website, answer a question, or come by the library, etc. How can you use video on social media? 1.
