Tips for Promoting Your Summer Reading Program: You’ll find these and many other ideas on our JLG Pinterest Board: Summer Reading. Provide a list of books on a variety of reading levels Collaborate between school and public library systems Help students access materials by providing online books, audiobooks, as well as printed materials Connect the reader to the author or illustrator by showing Meet-the-Author Movies Help readers set reasonable goals Make it social: use social media hashtags or invite readers to storytimes Public librarians: visit the schools in your area or send a video to promote your programming Teachers: offer incentives to encourage your students to participate Set up a summer beach free reading area before school gets out Host a book swap. Let kids bring in their own books and swap for a “new book.” Have some extras for those who forget to bring a book. Ask participants to take pictures of their summer reading and create a bulletin board at the end of the summer. Who read in the most unusual spot? Use Adobe Spark or Typorama to create an infopic. Have a blog? Have students create blog posts of their reviews. Connect your summer reading programs to your Makerspace. If they can build it, they will come! If you can’t take your kids to the public library, create a video where they can see it. Give them a “tour” online. Teach them that they can check out books, movies, music and magazines.
