Nonfiction for Everyone

As award-winning nonfiction children’s author Melissa Stewart discusses in her article for the School Library Journal and her JLG webcast interview, nonfiction titles can generally be divided into five categories. And helping young readers discover which types they enjoy most is one important key to encouraging their interest in nonfiction reading. Those categories are: Traditional, Browsable, Narrative, Expository Literature, and Active Titles. To help you get started, we've put together a special list of titles that fall into each category.
