Elizabeth Cady Stanton grew up in the nineteenth century, when women did not have the same rights as men. From an early age, she thought this inequality was unfair. Why couldn't women go to college, own property, or vote? In 1848, realizing that "if women could vote, they could help change all kinds of laws," she set out to obtain women's suffrage.
