Arrested for Witchcraft!: Nickolas Flux and the Salem Witch Trials

Time-traveling Nickolas Flux, who “has a knack for landing in history’s tightest spots,” suddenly finds himself in 1692 Massachusetts during the Salem Witch Trials. With his magical arrival and modern backpack, he’s suspected to be a witch! In this appealing graphic-novel-style adventure, Nickolas meets many of the people involved in the trials, including John Proctor, whose defense of his accused wife also puts him in danger. The book’s approachable organization includes an opening spread that introduces the main characters. Brief chapters contain frequent “Flux Fact” boxes with additional details (“John Proctor was the first man to be named a witch. Eventually more than 40 men were accused.”), and a closing “Flux Files” spread provides background information about the trials and people involved. Back matter consists of a glossary, suggested reading, link to publisher-approved Web sites, and an index.
