George O 'Connor says, "When I was in the fourth grade, my class studied the Greek myths. Each student was assigned a god or goddess to dress up as and give an oral report on. (I was Hermes, still my favorite Olympian.) From then on, my sketchpads (and columns of my notebooks and textbooks) were filled with doodles of Minotaurs, gorgons, and assorted deities. Many of the drawings in Zeus: King of the Gods can be traced back to those early sketches.
"It didn 't take long for me to see the connection between the superheroes in my comics and the gods and heroes in my mythology books. That was the beginning of Olympians, the series for which Zeus: King of the Gods is the first volume. I 'm a very lucky man to have the chance to be able to introduce the wonderful old stories of ancient Greece to a new audience. "
