When a new collection is announced by JLG, I always search out my favorite authors. I get excited and anticipate reading their latest books. New authors can also be a treat. Recently, I pulled out my spring catalog and went on a treasure hunt for debut authors. It was time to change things up and experience someone new.

Celebrate Spring: Teen Booktalks Webcast Shortlist

Yesterday Leslie and I did our second webcast for the new selections of 2015. In 30 minutes, we managed to booktalk 30 books for teens. Below is the shortlist of our selections and their corresponding categories. A few choices, such as The Bunker Diaries (YM), lend themselves to be suitable solely for upper grades. Many of the books, however, can be used at both middle and high school grades.

Let the Discussion Begin: Award Season 2014

While actors rehearse for the Tony and Oscar Award ceremonies, librarians and other book lovers across the country are gearing up for our own celebratory event. What will win the Printz, the Newbery, the Pura Belpre, or the Coretta Scott King? Journals are already releasing their best lists. I've been cross-referencing them to see which books appear on multiple lists. How about you? What books are on your best list? What books are missing from those lists?
