You can teach an old dog new tricks! Woof! Woof! Yesterday Kayleigh and I played around with video on social media. It was Christmas sweater day, so I brought out my Mrs. Claus outfit. Nostalgic for winter booktalks with my kids, I did my first Facebook Live. How hard was it to shoot live?

I'm working on a new Books for Boys and Anyone Else Who Likes a Great Book workshop, when it occurred to me: What if I had a wish list at JLG? Then I could easily add titles as I read them. Then, JLG (meaning Jeanette) could create a new list under our Themed Lists page and make it easier for you to shop for them after attending a workshop. Then I thought: I should make a video about how to create a wish list. Maybe some members don't know how. What about you? Are you using the Wish List feature? It's so easy to create and use a wish list.

Being a Junior Library Guild member has its privileges. Sure, people can see our selections if they go to our website, but there are hidden secrets, resources, and data that only members can see. (And you don't have to have a special jacket or handshake to access these hidden gems.) All you need is one simple action. Log in. Doing it will open the door to four reasons why you want to stay logged into your account.

It's January and the highlight of children's book publishing season is just days away. Many of you are already in Boston for the Big Event (or hopefully safely on your way). On Monday morning at 8AM EST, the doors will open and the suspense will soon be over. Watch the Live Webcast here. Someone asked me the other day what I thought would win. Honestly, I've gotten my head buried in 2016 already. (With three imminent webcasts and a little bit of down time off the road, I've got to think ahead when I can.) So now that I'm thinking about 2015, I'll give you a couple of tips to remember.

Last week I was on the road--every day a different city. (And most days a different state) I led a full day seminar on Making the Best Use of Technology in Your School Library. We had lots of aha moments accompanied by pats on the head (POH) and inspirational moments as well. Everyone left with a long to do list (including me). Look for my handiwork to show up in JLG's Monthly Newsletter. Sign up for it if you don't want to be left out. For those of you who were there, what follows are books and websites that weren't in your handbooks for your ease of use.

Pictures are worth a thousand words. Wouldn't it be nice to see something that might appeal to your kids? Do you have to think it up yourself? In the midst of trying to do so many things at once, though, where's your inspiration for new display ideas?

I'm doing a keynote and several sessions over a period of two days next week, so I thought I should make sure I was ready. While looking over what I am supposed to talk about, a very terrible thing happened. I deleted a number of slides while adjusting a presentation and didn't save the original. You know that feeling you get when you realize there's nothing that you can do? It's too late to be saved and all your work is just gone? I had that moment. Little did I know there was a marvel ahead.

Who says a person has to be ineffective after 3:00PM on a workday? With the right motivation, and maybe some Girl Scout cookies, I learned something new that I've been fighting with forever. (Special thanks to you-know-who-are who sent me the tutorial)
