Bird, Butterfly, Eel

In summer, a barn swallow, a monarch butterfly, and an American eel live on the same New England farm. In autumn, all three animals migrate thousands of miles to places that are warm and beautiful: Bird flies to the meadows of Argentina, Butterfly glides to the mountains of Central Mexico, and Eel swims to the Sargasso Sea. The following spring, Bird flies home to her nest in the barn, Butterfly returns to her meadow where soon "her young [will take] her place," and "Eel's young, small as toothpicks and clear as glass, swim up the creek to the pond."
