Bravo, Tavo!

Tavo needs new sneakers to play basketball; the tape barely holds his old ones together, but he will have to wait until the rains come and the crops are harvested. That won't be any time soon. The ground in his Mexican village is parched, and the sun blazes relentlessly. Tavo's father suggests that the villagers dig up the zanjas, the ancient irrigation channels that run up into the mountains, to end the drought. But the mayor and everyone else ridicule the idea.
