"The Marriss Bike Barn had been humming all summer. We do repairs. Hard times at the gas pumps had meant good times for the bike biz." So when gas runs out across the country and Dewey Marriss's parents are stranded up near Canada, fourteen-year-old Dewey, along with his four siblings, have to manage on their own for a while. No one expects the shortage to last so long, and Dewey, who's running the family bike shop, has his hands full. That's before parts start to go missing.
