Here’s Looking at Me: How Artists See Themselves

If you were going to paint a picture of yourself, how would you do it? Artists answer this question in different ways. Sofonisba Anguissola painted a portrait of her teacher painting a portrait of her; Marc Chagall painted himself with seven fingers on his left hand; and Jacob Lawrence painted himself in his Seattle studio with Harlem showing out the window.
