How Tía Lola Came to Stay

When Miguel’s parents decide to divorce, Miguel, his mother, and his sister move from New York City to Vermont. Miguel feels out of place as a Dominican in a predominantly white community. Then his aunt, Tia Lola, arrives. Miguel loves her magical stories and delicious cooking, but he’s worried. She doesn’t speak any English, and she does things like paint the house purple. Miguel thinks it will be easier to make friends if he keeps Tia Lola a secret.
