From debut author-illustrator Angela Hsieh comes a lush middle grade graphic novel about a girl who finds friendship and gains a greater understanding of her grandmother as she journeys across the fantastical land of Lirrin. Perfect for fans of Studio Ghibli films and The Tea Dragon Society!
Lu Tsao dreams of being a great adventurer. Her idol is her ah-ma (grandmother), who is a traveling geozoologist. Ah-ma researches unique animals like dreamy cloud-jellies, enormous sunfish, and playful mossgoats. There’s nothing Lu loves more than reading Ah-ma’s letters about her quests, even if she and her mom struggle to understand the Cylian characters.
Suddenly, Ah-ma stops writing. Lu is worried, but when a nearby town needs a geozoologist, Lu decides to journey from place to place to look for Ah-ma. Lu charts a course with the help of Ren, an old friend who might not be telling Lu everything about why she wants to come. During their travels, they plan to help as many people as they can. But as Lu discovers that the world is a messy place, will she accept that her ah-ma and Ren are both more complicated than she could have ever anticipated?
