Mole and the Baby Bird

Mole finds a baby bird that has fallen out of its nest. When no one comes for it, Mole takes the bird home, builds it a nest, and faithfully cares for it. Soon the bird is ready to fly away, but Mole does not want to let his beloved pet go. Grandad takes Mole for a walk to the top of a big hill and helps Mole understand what the caged bird is missing. In the end, Mole is glad to see his pet "flying, soaring, free." Full-color art.
