One Candle

Each year during Hanukkah, a family lights a makeshift candle made from thread and a hollowed-out potato-a tradition Grandma and Great-Aunt Rose started when they were prisoners in a concentration camp during the Holocaust. The children are not sure why Grandma wants to relive an experience that makes her cry, but they think "it has something to do with being strong in the bad time and remembering it in the good time."
