Polar Animals

This attractive volume shows readers how to make origami models of various Arctic and Antarctic animals. After an introduction describes and defines polar habitats, the book then presents six origami animal projects (polar bear, reindeer, snowy owl, walrus, orca, and emperor penguin). The first page of each section provides interesting information about the featured species—for example, reindeer “are the only type of deer in which both males and females have antlers,” and adult male orcas “may have a dorsal fin that is taller than an adult human.” A list of needed materials follows, along with clearly photographed and labeled directions for folding an origami version of the animal. Back matter consists of a glossary defining the text’s bolded words, a link to publisher-approved Web resources, suggested reading, and an index.
