The Happiness of Kati

Nine-year-old Kati loves many things about her home in a small Thai village: the house's sixteen water jars; the little paddleboat in the river; the toothy white smile of Tong, the abbott's boy. Living with her grandparents in a traditional house, she is mostly content, with one exception. For many long years her mother has been missing from her life. Then Grandfather receives an upsetting letter. Soon Kati gets a chance to learn about her past-and make a choice about her future.
