When Olivia Von Macht requests a portrait of herself to put by her beloved daughter Eleanora's graveside, Enoch Middleditch-a professional photographercum- swindler-decides to take advantage of the situation and create a "spirit photograph." He dispatches his young assistant, Horace, to photograph a picture of Eleanora, which he will then insert into the background of Mrs. Von Macht's portrait. But, upon developing his pictures, Horace discovers he has, in fact, photographed Eleanora's ghost. And, far from being "beloved," Eleanora was the victim of abuse and is now a furious spirit desperate for revenge.
