Vinnie and Abraham

Vinnie Ream was born with a talent for sculpting, but as a poor, artistically untrained post office employee during the Civil War, she knew she had to make her own opportunities to create art. She was not yet sixteen when she convinced a famous Washington sculptor to let her be his apprentice. Soon congressmen were coming to her to get their likenesses made-but there was one very tall man with a craggy, lined face whom she longed to sculpt more than anyone else. Author's note.
