The Missing Manatee

After Russell Waters, nicknamed Skeet, overhears his mother telling his father that she never wants him to come home, Skeet gets in his boat and runs it out into the Gulf of Mexico, "hoping the speed and salty breeze would blow the words right out of my head." On his way back he finds a manatee with a bullet hole in the back of its head. Worried that the killer is still around, Skeet fetches a deputy. But by the time they return, the manatee is gone.
